Johnny was born in Shreveport, LA in 1951. Soon after, his family moved to Jackson, Mississippi. In 1971 Johnny headed to the "Big Apple" New York City. For twenty years, He worked with some of the biggest Advertising agencies in the world, writing and singing jingles. He wrote the themes for "Search for Tomorrow" and the "Edge of Night." His solos included Diet Pepsi, US Army Reserve, Burger King, Juicy Fruit Gum, Publisher's Clearing House and GE (We bring good things to life).

Johnny was also part of the Barry Manilow group for a year, playing guitar and singing on tour as well as in the studio on Manilow’s million plus selling record, “Barry Manilow II”, better known as the “Mandy” album!

In 1991, Johnny gave up the lifestyle to follow Jesus. Led by the Holy Spirit, Johnny moved back to Jackson, Mississippi where he co-wrote and produced four children's Christian CD projects: "Let's Go Fishing," "He Created Me," "Happy Birthday Jesus," and "Clumpy Clay." In 1997, Johnny left Jackson and took his family to Nashville to head up the children's division of Freedom Records called "Freedom Kids," a division of Malaco Music Group. In 2004, Johnny co-wrote with Paul Overstreet, Ricky Skaggs' single "Halfway Home Cafe."
