The
LeGrand is a high performance guitar for the serious player seeking
a superb feel and vintage tone (or more). The "S" style
body is vintage in look with nice contours and rounded edges and a vast
variety of nice high gloss finishes too choose from. This style of guitar
is known for the sparkle of single coils and the bluesy sound of shared
single coils; the LeGrand exemplifies this with added pickup settings
to the standard 5-way with our punch control. And you can further customize
with our pickup selections.
Why
does this guitar play and respond better than a standard bolt-on?
The neck and how it mates to the body is the heart of the instrument.
Our patented neck joint has increased compression to the body than a
standard flat-to-flat surface coupling with wood screws which gives
you better vibration transfer. The guitar is more "alive",
the notes resonate throughout the body, and you gain a "bigness"
to the single coil sound. Also, the "pocketing" of the neck
means it will not shift and reduces the heel size so you have better
upper fret access. A typical response we get is how good the neck feels.
Not only from the neck shape but the organic wood feel allowed by the
oiled finish of the neck and fingerboard. If you like the feel of "strat-style
necks" then the shape of this neck is an excellent fit. It is very
solid feeling and considered medium to medium thin. Not too thin like
some of the flat back "shred" style necks but very comfortable
to wrap your hand around.
The conical radius fingerboard is a very important and very nice feature.
This changing radius gives you the best of both styles of radiuses.
The small radius near the nut reduces hand tension and makes chord work
more comfortable at the first frets. The flatter radius as your work
your way up the fingerboard gives your cleaner bends and lower more
consistent action. Our fingerboards are precision machined for this
radius, for exacting fret placement and a high level of consistency
from one neck to another. Careful fret work and the finest fret wire
insure excellent intonation, action, and feel. Careful set up by luthiers/players
insure your instrument is set up for its finest playability.
What bridge does the LeGrand use? An industry standard vintage
style 6-screw tremolo. This bridge is known for being a good mate to
the classic single coil sparkle. Generally this bridge and the many
small variations of it are used sparingly as a tremolo and acts more
like a fixed bridge. It is a good feeling bridge and, unless you need
a true tremolo, there is no need to spend the extra money.
Do I need to move up in price from the LeGrand to the other versions
like the LeGrand Legend? Will this get me a better guitar? No. The
guitars are not "better". They offer you different bridges
or woods.
The LeGrand Legend upgrades to
a true stay-in-tune non-locking floating tremolo with exceptional feel
or a pro fixed bridge.
The LeGrand Floyd is for the ultimate
aggressive tremolo user which utilizes the real, original, Floyd. Not
the lesser, cheaper metal Floyds.
The LeGrand Custom Legend
is the ultimate in looks with exotic woods and choices of bridges, pickups,
and more.
Starting at only $1,395 (hardshell case included).

Does
a guitar need to cost $2,000 - $3,000 to be great? No. The LeGrand
is a "Boutique" level guitar. From a players standpoint it does
what it should do. Respond and let you forget it's even there so you can
concentrate on your music.
Part of the reason the LeGrand is so playable and responsive is from the
technical design that we touched on above. Please
use this link to find out more . Another part of the reason the
guitars are made so well, and reasonable in price, is from the
use of very good equipment. This allows us to attain precision, consistency
and build quality. This also helps in the third part of the equation:
the personal attention each guitar recieves from wood selection
to inspection during each step, from fret work to final set-up. The use
of good equipment allows us to spend the time where we need to - on each
instrument to insure that you are getting a fine instrument - at a reasonable
price.
